How Our Laser Toenail Fungus Removal Works
A stubborn fungal infection requires a thorough removal treatment. Here’s how we do our laser toenail fungus removal procedure:
Before we proceed to our laser toenail fungus removal treatment, we will offer a complimentary consultation with a specialist.
In our private consultation room, our technician will discuss the procedure and entertain any questions you might have about the treatment. We will also show you a video of how our laser fungus removal treatment works, so you know what to expect.
If you decide to carry on the treatment, we can book an appointment, or you can get started with the procedure immediately.
Once ready, you will enter a separate room where you will be treated. We will provide you with a pair of safety goggles during the procedure.
Then, our technician will conduct the two complete passes on the five toenails on the right foot, followed by the same on the left foot. You may feel a slight heat sensation on the nail, although many other patients report not feeling anything.
As all ten toes will be treated, a technician will finish the process by applying an anti-fungal topical.
Toenail fungal infection can be challenging to treat effectively. To ensure that our customers achieve the best results, we offer pre-treatment instructions to prevent reinfection and speed up the healing process.
- Clean your toes and exfoliate your feet to remove dead skin that may be nurturing fungus.
- Clip your nails before the appointment. Regular pedicures will allow you to clear the infected nail as much as possible.
- Remove (clear or colored) nail polish before the treatment since laser energy cannot travel through nail polish.
- Avoid wearing your old pair of socks after the appointment to avoid reinfection, so bring new cotton socks to change into.
Once you complete the laser toenail fungus removal treatment, our laser specialist will provide detailed aftercare instructions. These instructions are essential to speed up the healing process and avoid reinfection.
- Apply an anti-fungal spray containing active ingredients such as butenafine 1%, miconazole 2%, terbinafine 1%, Tolnaftate 1%, Clotrimazole 1%, or Undecylenic acid 5%. Spray it on the top of your feet. Apply it twice daily, and keep your feet clean and dry.
- Spray the anti-fungal spray inside your shoes at the end of the day. You can also use Lysol or use an ultraviolet shoe sterilizer as directed.
- Shine a sterilizing ultraviolet light such as SteriShoe for 45 minutes into your shoes overnight. We will be using SteriShoe during your appointment with us, but you can also purchase the product during your visit.
- Avoid wearing the same shoes every day. You must also spray the anti-fungal product every time you wear shoes and clean tubs/showers with bleach.
- Use an anti-fungal spray or powder with baking soda if your feet sweat a lot.
- Buy new nail files and clippers. You might get reinfected if you continue using your old ones. Nail care instruments made of metal also require cleaning. You can use boiling water and diluted bleach.
- Wash fabrics like socks and bedding with hot soapy water as these directly come in contact with your feet. You can also use cloth bleach for this purpose. Don’t forget to change bed linens or wear clean socks to bed every night.
- Do not go barefoot, and always wear shoes when possible, especially in hotel rooms, public places, gyms, showers, indoor swimming pools, or even at home.
- Do not visit nail salons that do not use clean instruments. It would be best if you also used disposable liners for a pedicure.
- Please dispose of all your old nail polishes as they may cause reinfection.
- Wash your feet and toes daily, and don’t forget to dry them thoroughly.
