How Our Laser Hair Removal Works
Go hair-free permanently when you try out our laser hair removal service.
Laser Hair Removal Pre-Treatment
- On the treatment, day-patient must be shaven cleanly
- Within the four weeks of appointment, the patient cannot have waxed, bleached, plucked, or threaded the hair in areas that need to be treated
- The patient should not use depilatory (hair removal products in the form of a gel, cream, or foam ) for two weeks before the appointment
- Intense sun exposure needs to be avoided, including incidental sun, tanning beds, self-tanners, and spray tans two weeks before and after this treatment
- A patient cannot have a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or any other laser treatment within two weeks of the appointment
- Patients must not be consuming any photosensitive medication or antibiotics
- The patient cannot have used Retinoids or topical Benzoyl Peroxide medications three days before treatment
- Within six months of treatment, the patient cannot have consumed Accutane
- Not allowed for nursing or pregnant women
Laser Hair Removal Post-Treatment
- Moisturize the treated area at least three times daily for three to four days. Moisturizing will reduce irritation and minimize the chances of folliculitis.
- Be gentle: Avoid bathing in hot water (bath or hot tub) or swimming (pools and ocean) for at least three days. Take only short, cool, or lukewarm showers; DO NOT scrub the area. After showering, gently pat the area dry and avoid rubbing with your towel.
- NO SUN: Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds! Wear sunblock with an SPF of 45 or higher every time you are outside.
- NO IRRITANTS: Avoid irritants such as astringents, toners, and prescription retinoids or OTC retinol, harsh soaps, medicated washes, scrubs, peels, and other exfoliates for at least one week after your treatment. DO NOT scrub/rub the area.
- NO PLUCKING: After hair reduction treatments, do not pluck or pick at hairs that are falling out. Let the hairs fall out naturally (this will happen over the next five to 15 days).
Other Notes:
- FOR ITCHING and/or SWELLING: You may take liquid up to three days—Allegra, Benadryl, or Claritin (depending on the availability over the counter) as required. Before the next appointment, you can take Liquid Benadryl, Claritin, or Allegra. Apply the Elta MD Post Laser Cream daily for three days twice a day. You may also apply Aquaphor or Vaseline.
- FACIAL and NECK HAIR: The results can be challenging in the case of neck and facial hair. It is necessary to see a primary care physician if you have hair that is not responding to this treatment. Your hormone levels should be checked for the root cause. However, some hair will not go away, but with occasional treatment, it can be reduced and maintained.
- FOR DISCOMFORT: Apply ice packs to the treated area if you experience swelling, redness, or minor. You should apply it every three to five minutes (not more than five minutes each time) for one to two hours. You can also use the Vaseline, Aquaphor, or Post Laser Cream to the affected area thrice daily until the problem resolves.
- TIMING: Hair growth takes place in three stages, namely (anagen, catagen, and telogen), and hair reduction is susceptible to the anagen phase. Don’t worry; we will tell you when you need to come for the next treatment as it is based on the area that needs to be treated.
- FOR MICROCRUSTING: Do not scrub the area or rub it and apply Aquaphor or Vaseline. For more information, you can contact us.
Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Fortunately, most people interested in getting a laser hair removal procedure are qualified to get one. However, if you have unwanted hair, you want to get rid of; you can visit us at Glow MedSpa to check out our permanent hair removal solutions.
Benefits of Laser Hair Removal Service
More and more people turn to permanent hair removal solutions to eliminate stubborn, unwanted hair. Here are a few benefits of our laser hair removal service:
Permanent, long-term solution
Unlike other hair removal treatments, laser hair removals address hair growth by the hair follicles, so they don’t grow immediately. When the hair follicles are destroyed after a few treatments, you will notice that your hair stops regrowing, so you won’t have to repeat the same procedure.
Low maintenance
Laser hair removal is a better option when addressing unwanted hair because, unlike other hair removal methods, this requires fewer touch-ups in the future. In addition, as a more long-term solution, laser hair removal aims to permanently remove unwanted hair from a specific part of your body.
Pain-free
Our procedures help eliminate cuts, razor burns, or irritation. In addition, our laser hair removal service makes hair removal a lot more comfortable than waxing, shaving, plucking, or threading which hurts or irritates the skin.
Safer
Prevent common side effects to your typical hair removals methods, such as burns, razor cuts, or ingrown hairs. Our advanced laser technology caters to light and dark skin types without complications so they can safely enjoy hair-free and more flawless skin.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs
How many laser hair removal treatments do I need?
Due to the staggered nature of the hair growth cycle, with some hairs actively growing while others are dormant, laser hair removal requires multiple treatments to catch each strand as it enters the “active” growth phase.
The number of laser hair removal treatments necessary for complete hair removal varies from person to person. Most patients require 6-12 hair removal treatments, spread out between 4-6 week intervals. Attending every appointment in your treatment plan is essential to ensure the best results.
How long does the laser hair removal procedure take?
GentleMAX Pro produce an 18mm spot size (about the size of a quarter). This larger spot size coupled with more hertz (power), means a faster and more effective treatment. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat multiple hairs at the same time. Small areas such as the upper lip can be treated in less than a minute, and large areas, such as fullback or full legs can take from to 45 minutes to an hour on average.
Is laser hair removal safe?
Laser treatments are extremely safe. Our lasers are FDA approved and use the most advanced technology to deliver the safest treatment. All of our technicians are experts in Laser Hair Removal they are fully certified, with up to date training and have a great deal of experience with providing treatments to fit your needs.
Do I have to let my hair grow out before a laser hair removal procedure?
No. In fact, the less hair there is on the surface the better. We want as much of the laser’s energy as possible to go down to the follicle where it is needed instead of just concentrating on what hair is visible on the surface. You should attend your appointment with the intended treatment area clean shaven. Making sure the intended treatment area clean shaven will make the treatment less painful and far more effective.
It is very important that you do not tweeze, wax, use depilatory creams such as Nair or Veet, or use bleaching creams at least 4 weeks prior to your first appointment.
Is laser hair removal safe when pregnant or nursing?
While there is no known risk we do not offer laser hair removal when pregnant or nursing as an extra precaution.
Is laser hair removal safe for darker skin tones?
Yes! We have two distinct layers: one for lighter skin, and one for darker skin.
No matter how dark the skin, our GentleMax Pro YAG laser is considered the gold standard for treating unwanted hair on darker skin types.
Its longer wavelength safely bypasses the skin and targets the melanin in the hair shaft, destroying the unwanted hair follicle or roo without damaging the pigmentation of the skin.
Can you still help me if I have had electrolysis or other laser treatments in the past?
Yes, if you still have unwanted hair in the area that was treated then we are happy to offer a laser hair removal treatment plan.
We have helped many clients who have not had the ability to withstand painful electrolysis, as well as those who have not had positive results with other types of laser systems.
Will freckles, moles, or tattoos be damaged if they are in the treatment area?
Our technicians have the ability to adjust the laser intensity for areas that have moles and/or freckles.
It is not possible to treat areas with existing tattoos as it will affect the ink, if you are considering Laser Hair removal and a tattoo then please visit us before getting a tattoo!
Since Microblading & permanent eyebrows and/or lip liner are considered tattoos, please inform us if you have any of this so we can adjust the lasers near those areas.
Is laser hair removal painful or uncomfortable?
You may experience a small but manageable sensation that we describe as a “pinch” or a “zap” when we pulse the laser. The DCD (Dynamic Cooling Device) that our lasers are equipped with eliminates the need for any topical numbing preparations. Before every laser pulse, cryogen (cooling agent) is automatically sprayed onto the skin within the laser field that protects and partially numbs that area. This makes the treatment safer and more comfortable. Stress, fatigue, caffeine, your menstrual cycle, and pain tolerance may also influence the level of comfort — or discomfort — that you feel. We have a topical cream that is prescribed by our physician for those who are sensitive to pain.
Most of our former waxing, stringing and electrolysis clients report that the discomfort is far less than those methods of hair removal.
Are there any side effects of laser hair removal?
With Laser Hair Removal risks are minimal. There is no recovery or downtime so patients can return to their normal activities immediately. After the treatment, you may experience a slight reddening of the skin similar to a sunburn that will resolve within a few hours to days. In certain instances (especially in patients with darker complexions) temporary pigment changes may occur but will disappear within a month.
What should i know following my laser hair removal treatment?
Immediately following your treatment, and for two weeks after your session, you should avoid unprotected sun exposure. If you have to go out into the sun, then you will need to apply sunscreen with Zinc, 20 SPF, or higher. Clients continuing laser hair removal treatments need to refrain from waxing and/or tweezing as a hair removal option.
While receiving laser treatments, please shave to remove remaining hair in between laser sessions. Over the course of your treatments, the hair will start to grow back less frequently, thinner and sparse. At least two weeks after each session the hair may start to shed on its own, releasing the follicle.
Am I allowed to tan?
While getting treated for laser hair removal we ask you to avoid all types of tanning.
This includes tanning outside, tanning beds, spray tans, and tanning injections. If you have tanned recently we want you to wait at least two weeks before your next treatment. The reason for this is because the laser is attracted to pigment. And rather than the laser picking up the pigment of the hair, there is a risk that it will pick up the extra pigment on the skin, resulting in a burn.
What if I have excessive hair growth?
While the vast majority of patients achieve outstanding results from laser hair removal, people with excessive hair growth particularly in unusual areas may want to explore any possible underlying medical conditions prior to receiving laser hair removal. Men may experience excessive growth due to undiagnosed insulin resistance whereas women with male-pattern facial hair may want to see an endocrinologist to rule out any possibility of PCOS, Hirsutism, or elevated testosterone levels. Laser hair removal can only destroy hair that’s currently growing. For example, Our Laser Technician may treat an area and effectively destroy all of the hair that was growing at the time of treatment, yet a patient may grow new hair (though this is usually just a few strands) due to hormonal changes that trigger new growth from previously dormant follicles such as pregnancy and menopause. Laser hair removal does not stop your body from developing new hair from dormant follicles due to medical conditions after treatments are completed.
The following are potential causes of excessive hair growth:
- Pregnancy
- Menopause
- Glandular and/or hormonal imbalances
- PCOS
- Insulin resistance
- Thyroid problems
- Reactions to certain medications
- Steroid use
The majority of people, even with a medical condition, are treatable and can achieve great results permanently removing their unwanted body hair. Diagnosing a medical condition prior to treatment will help us at New Look Houston to treat you more effectively and better explain to you what to expect before, during, and after treatment.
Can I get treated if I have an STD/herpes?
Yes, you can get treated. We ask you to inform us of your new patient paperwork when you come in for your consultation. If you have the herpes simplex virus, antiviral therapy can be started 1-2 days before treatment and continued for 1-week post-treatment to help prevent an outbreak. If you do have an outbreak we ask you to reschedule your appointment.
Are laser hair removal results permanent?
Results vary depending on skin and hair type. Many patients can achieve hair reduction of up to 85-90% and remaining hair returns lighter and softer. Results vary depending on the patient. However, there have been some studies have shown a hair can go dormant for a few years and then start to grow again the results vary person to person.

Does laser hair removal work on dark hair?
